SENIOR MANAGEMENT TEAM
Joseph S. Zakrzewski - CEO
Mr. Zakrzewski joined Amarin in January 2010 as Executive
Chairman. Mr. Zakrzewski has more than 20 years of industry
experience, including significant contributions to Reliant
Pharmaceuticals as Chief Operating Officer during the period
when Omacor®/Lovaza® was successfully developed, launched, and
marketed for reducing very high triglyceride levels, leading to its
2007 acquisition by GlaxoSmithKline. In addition, Mr. Zakrzewski
contributed 17 years of service to Eli Lilly & Company in a
variety of capacities, including Vice President of Corporate
Business Development where he had global responsibility for
licensing activities.
John Thero - President
Mr. Thero has more than 20 years of senior financial and
operational management experience including over 15 years
supporting the growth of life science companies. Previously,
Mr. Thero was Chief Financial Officer of Amarin Corporation.
Prior to Amarin, Mr. Thero was the Chief Financial Officer at
ViaCell, Inc., where he helped guide the company to its successful
sale, and Abiomed, Inc., during its transition from a development-stage
company into a commercial entity. Mr. Thero began his professional
career at Arthur Andersen LLP, during which time he became a Certified Public Accountant.
Paul Huff - Chief Commercial Officer
Mr. Huff joined Amarin in 2010 as Chief Commercial Officer and brings over 25 years of
cardiovascular-focused pharmaceutical marketing and sales experience, with a special
emphasis on marketing lipid-modifying prescription pharmaceuticals. Mr. Huff has held
senior-level sales and marketing positions with a number of pharmaceutical and biotechnology
companies, including Reliant Pharmaceuticals, where as Vice President of Marketing, he played
a pivotal role in the launch and successful commercialization of Lovaza, the leading
prescription Omega-3 product for reducing triglycerides. Similarly, at Kos Pharmaceuticals
Mr. Huff played an integral role in the launch and successful commercialization of Niaspan,
the leading prescription drug for raising HDL cholesterol. Mr. Huff received a B.S. in
marketing from the University of Maryland.
Declan Doogan, M.D. - Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Doogan joined Amarin in April 2007 as Head of Research and Development and was appointed Interim Chief
Executive Officer in October 2009. Most recently, Dr. Doogan was Senior Vice President and Head of Worldwide
Development at Pfizer Global Research & Development. In recent years, he held a number of senior positions
in Pfizer in the US and the UK. Dr. Doogan joined Pfizer in 1982, where he led the Zoloft clinical development
program. He held positions in the UK and in Japan, where he was initially Medical Director and later head
of the company’s development organization. Dr. Doogan holds a Visiting Professorship of Drug Development
Science with Kitasato University in Japan. In addition, Dr. Doogan holds a number of non-executive directorships
in the US and the UK. Dr. Doogan received his medical degree from Glasgow University in 1975. He is a Fellow
of the Royal College of Physicians of Glasgow and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine in the UK.
Stuart Sedlack – SVP, Corporate Development
Mr. Sedlack is an accomplished corporate development executive with over 20 years of licensing,
corporate development and finance experience and is responsible for Amarin's business development
and supply chain activities. Prior to joining Amarin in 2007, he held several senior level positions
in industry including SVP, Corporate Development, Global Head Negotiations, Infectious Diseases,
and VP, Corporate Development with Alba Therapeutics, Novartis Pharma AG, and Élan Corporation,
plc, respectively. Prior to Élan, he served as Director at the University of Maryland Medical
System's technology licensing office and began his career in 1988 working for ABN AMRO Bank and
MNC International Bank specializing in international trade finance. Mr. Sedlack holds a BS
degree from the University of Richmond and an MBA from Babson College.
Paresh Soni, M.D., PhD - SVP and Head of Development
Dr. Paresh Soni joined Amarin in September 2008 as SVP and Head of Development. Dr. Soni joins Amarin from Pfizer
where he held a number of leadership roles in Pfizer Global Research and Development in both experimental medicine
and late stage development. He provided clinical leadership to a number of programs including darifenacin,
Viagra and lasofoxifene, including the submission of two New Drug Applications (NDAs). He was the development
team leader for antiviral projects in infectious diseases, and clinical leader and clinical group head for the
GI/hepatology therapeutic area. Dr. Soni, a board-certified internist and gastroenterologist, completed his
medical and specialist training at the University of Natal in South Africa before completing a research
fellowship at the Division of Hepatology, Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, London, where he also
completed a PhD. Dr. Soni is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA) and American
Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD).
Joseph T. Kennedy – SVP, General Counsel
Mr. Kennedy joined Amarin in December 2011 with a significant record of achievement in the life science industry.
Mr. Kennedy was previously Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Transcept Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Chief
Corporate Counsel, then Vice President, Acting Chief Legal Officer with Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and Vice
President and U.S. Counsel, Corporate Business Development, with Elan Corporation, plc. Mr. Kennedy previously
practiced law with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. Mr. Kennedy earned a J.D. from New York Law School and a
B.A. in Economics from Fairfield University. In 2010, he was honored by the President of Ireland for his
contributions to the life science industry as one of the "Irish Life Science 50."
