Frederick Ahlholm, CPA
Vice President, Finance and Administration and Chief Accounting Officer
Mr. Ahlholm joined Amarin in March 2010 as Vice President – Finance and
Administration. Mr. Ahlholm has approximately 20 years experience in financial
and operational management including life science, technology and manufacturing
companies. Previously, Mr. Ahlholm was Vice President, Finance at Acusphere, Inc..
Prior to Acusphere, Mr. Ahlholm’s experience includes senior management roles at
both public and private companies, including Chief Financial Officer for
e-StudioLive, Inc., a privately held, venture-backed high tech manufacturing company.
Mr. Ahlholm began his professional career at Ernst & Young LLP, is a
Certified Public Accountant, and has a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University
of Notre Dame.
Peggy J. Berry, MBA, RAC
Vice President, Head of Quality & Regulatory Affairs
Peggy Berry is responsible for the strategic management and oversight of the
regulatory affairs, quality, & pharmacovigilance departments. She has more
than 20 years of experience in drug development and regulatory affairs
including senior level positions with Dyax Corp, AstraZeneca, and Dey
Pharmaceuticals and roles at two clinical contract research organizations
(ILEX Oncology and Cato Research Ltd.) as well as project management work
in review divisions at the FDA. She has a BS in Biology and an MBA.
Rene A. Braeckman, Ph.D.
Vice President & Head of Development Operations
Rene Braeckman joined Amarin in December 2008 as Vice President & Head of
Development Operations to lead the planning and execution of the clinical studies
with AMR101. Before joining Amarin, he was Chief Scientific Officer & Senior VP
of Operations at Reliance Clinical Research Services. Dr Braeckman has over 25 years
of experience in the pharmaceutical field and held positions at small and large
pharmaceutical companies including Abbott, Chiron, Ceptyr, Pan Pacific, and Valeant.
Areas of expertise include clinical research, program management, contributions to
regulatory filings and meetings, clinical pharmacology, and CRO selection & management.
Dr. Braeckman received his Pharmacy degree and a PhD in Clinical Pharmacology from the
University of Gent, Belgium. He has published more than 30 research papers and book
chapters, and more than 60 abstracts.
George P. Grandolfi, Ph.D.
Vice President, Head of Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls
Dr. George Grandolfi joined Amarin in October 2008 as VP and Head of CMC.
During his career of more than 20 years, he has previously held product
development positions at Alkermes, Cephalon, DuPont-Merck, Boehringer
Ingelheim, and Spherics. He has developed several clinical and commercial
dosage forms, including tablets, capsules, lyophilized, parenterals, and
depot injections. He has also successfully led and contributed to the
scientific and technical product development of three approved NDAs.
Dr. Grandolfi holds a B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Rhode Island,
a M.S. in Pharmaceutics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and a
Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the Ohio State
University. He is a member of several professional societies and is also
a licensed pharmacist.
Derek Kalinowski,
Vice President, Commercial Supply Chain and Manufacturing Operations
Mr. Kalinowski joined our team in April of 2011 as Vice President of Commercial
Supply Chain and Manufacturing Operations. Mr. Kalinowski is an accomplished
professional with 19 years of broad pharmaceutical and biotech industry experience
and supply chain expertise, including all aspects of supplier negotiations as well
as contract and third party manufacturing/distribution management. Prior to joining
Amarin, he served as a Vice President of Supply Chain with Sigma Tau Pharmaceuticals
and Senior Director of Planning, Procurement, Strategic Sourcing and Logistics at
Enzon Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Kalinowski began his career with Johnson & Johnson
and Elan Pharmaceuticals.
William Stirtan, Ph.D.
Vice President of Project Management
Dr. Stirtan has 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He has held
leadership positions in research and in development. From 1999-2003 Dr. Stirtan held
positions of increasing responsibility at Bayer Corp. leading to his role as Director
of Lead Discovery. Since 2003, Dr. Stirtan has held Program and Portfolio Management
roles at Pfizer Inc. and Shire Pharmaceuticals contributing to the clinical
development of small molecule and protein therapeutics. Prior to joining Amarin,
Dr. Stirtan was Sr. Program Executive and Alliance Manager at Shire Pharmaceuticals
responsible for the joint development of three small molecules targeting Lysosomal
Storage Disorders. Dr. Stirtan holds a Ph.D. in Bio-organic chemistry from the
University of British Columbia.
